How To Find Awesome & Authentic Caribbean Food in Los Angeles

Caribbean Food in Los Angeles

When most people think of Caribbean food, there is one that shines above all the other cuisines of the region, Jamaican food.

This is not by chance, as Jamaica has some of the most world renowned dishes in its cultural catalog. Dishes such as jerk Chicken, Coconut Rice & Peas, Beef Patties and Ackee & Saltfish makes Jamaican food not only diverse but also full of flavor and originality.

The Caribbean region is made up of at least 28 island nations, but the cuisines that have really taken flight beyond these waters are Jamaican, Trinidadian and Cuban cuisines.

It is much harder to find food from countries like Barbados or Antigua in places like the United States, as there is no one export that sets them apart from everyone else.

Therefore finding Caribbean food in places like Los Angeles comes down to narrowing down your options to a single cuisine instead of a collective offering.

Jamaican restaurants can be easily found around LA, but mostly in the Culver City, South LA area. A few Cuban restaurants can also be found around the city, while Trinidadian cuisine is basically non-existent, unless you’re on the East Coast in cities like New York where there’s a large West Indian population.

So, if you’re looking for some authentic Caribbean grub, a Jamaican restaurant is your best bet.

Here at JamaFo, we saw the need for more Caribbean food offerings in and around Los Angeles, which is why we started JamaFo Xpress, our virtual restaurant segment.

JamaFo Xpress focuses solely on the main staples of Jamaican cuisine like Jerk Chicken and Oxtail, while keeping it light and authentic with sides like Coconut Rice & Peas, Fried Plantains and Island Vegetable. Plus, if you’re looking for a refreshing beverage, we also carry the popular Ting and D&G sodas.

We opened our first official location in the northwest San Fernando Valley on April 29, 2019 to much fanfare, offering up Jamaican cuisine through popular food delivery apps like GrubHub and UberEats.

Our aim is to take this concept beyond The Valley to other areas of the city like DTLA and West Hollywood in coming months, while eyeing the San Francisco area for the mid-long term.

Plus, if you’re interested in catering for your office lunch or private event, we offer both corporate and residential drop-off catering through our catering segment.

We want to make it easier for you to find awesome Caribbean food and learn about our culture and way of life without ever having to leave the West Coast (even though a visit to Jamaica would be nice).

Keep an eye out for us as we might be popping up in your neighborhood soon. Go here for more details.
